Parliament Delay Supported

Conservative member Greg Rickford is defending Prime Minister Harper's decision to suspend the current sitting of Parliament until March.

The MP for Kenora says it will give more time for other parliamentarians to consult with constituents on an upcoming budget.

"First of all the budget would have been scheduled to come out in early March, early April anyway," says Rickford. "We're taking this opportunity to do further consultations and I think that's important."

Rickford admits some bills will fail to get passed, but says a private members bill aimed killing the long-gun registry won't be impacted by the Common's delay.
