Do You Have Bed Bugs?


Don't let the bed bugs bite!

That's what the Northwestern Health Unit is trying to prevent.

Health Promotoer Valdine McEwen says they've received provincial funds to study the rate of bed bug infestations in our area.

A part of the study includes an on-line questionairre to determine if residents in the area are dealing with the bugs.

Operation Christmas Child



It's still two months away, but area residents are being to think about Christmas and how they can make it more enjoyable for children in need around the world.

Local organizers Della McQuakers Operation Christmas Child is now underway in the Rainy River District.


Residents are asked to fill a shoe box with small items to be sent to children in need around the world.


Shoe boxes are now available at Northland Basics and The Bargain Store in Fort Frances, Tompkins Hardward and the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo and at Quetico North Outfitters near Atikokan.

Fort Frances Employee Offered Name


It appears AbitibiBowater's new corporate name was a submission of an employee working at the Fort Frances mill.

The company will be known as Resolute Forest Products beginning November 7

The name was picked out from a contest the company held amongst its employees launched in April.

Airport Fuel Goes Up


The Fort Frances Airport is banking on a lower Canadian dollar will entice more American pilots to fuel up on the Canadian side of the border.

Town council approved increases to airport fuel prices at their meeting Tuesday night.

It follows an administration recommendation that prices be more in-line those at the Falls International Airport, which is seen the Fort airport's nearest competitor.
