Health Survey of Students Released

Junior and senior high school students in northern Ontario are more likely to be overweight or obese than there counterparts in southern Ontario.

Doctor Robert Mann of the Center for Addiction and Mental Health says that finding in a recent survey was somewhat surprising.

"I was a bit surprised," says Dr. Mann, "because I see the difference in the kinds of opportunities that young people have to go out and participate in unsupervised and unstructured physical activity outside in the north as compared to say in a dense, crowded, urban environment."

Mann says the survey also found a high number of students, 30 per cent, showing high rates of physiological stress.
