Funnel Cloudy Spotted In Rainy River District
There are reports of a tornado touching down in the Rainy River district.
Emergency officials say it happened last night in the Stratton area.
There are no reports of any damages or any injuries.
David Rogers of Environment Canada says a system passing through the area was prime for severe weather and prompting a number of warnings.
Because of the funnel cloud report, much of the district was briefly placed on a tornado watch.
Wisconsin Tourists Found Safe
Two people from Wisconsin are safe after being the subjects of a police search Saturday.
OPP initiated a search for 61-year Gary Fredrickson and his 9-year-old grandson Austin Fredrickson after family members became concerned they hadn't reached their destination, a cabin in the Sapawe area.
The pair were found safe in the Nipigon area later in the day.
Break In Near Mine Centre
OPP investigating a break-in at a cabin in the Mine Centre area.
A 16-foot Lund boat, a 15-horsepower outboard motor and a trailer, along with a power saw and one-thousand watt generator were taken from a cabin located at Bad Vermillion Lake.
The incident took place sometime between May 1st and June 6th.
New Forest Fires Reported
Four new fires are now on the Ministry of Natural Resources watch list.
One started in the Nipigon district, another in the Red Lake district and two more in the Sioux Lookout area.
To date, there have been 192 fires, burning almost 13-hundred hectares in the northwest region.
Thirteen of them have been in the Rainy River district where there are currently no active fires.
Grad Day for College Students
It's graduation day for students at Confederation College's Rainy River campus in Fort Frances.
President Jim Madder will be on hand for local commencement ceremonies where he'll hand out degrees and diplomas to graduating students in a variety of programs.
It will be his first ceremony in Fort Frances since becoming the College's new president in the fall.
Eye Van Celebrates Anniversary
The CNIB's Eye Van is back on the road.
It's the 40th year for the agencies medical mobile eye care unit.
Executive Director Monique Pilkington attributes strong community support for its longevity,
The Eye Van comes to the Rainy River district at the end of July with stops in Atikokan, Fort Frances and Rainy River.
