Cuts to Canadian Border Crossings
The union representing border guards says 325 front-line jobs are being cut because of measures in the federal budget.
Union spokesman Jean-Pierre Fortin says the cuts contradict the government's commitment to border security.
The union says travellers will also face longer waits at the border if the government follows through with the job cuts.
Doctors Facing Pay Cut
Ontario's doctors say they could be facing a 16 per cent pay cut over four years because of the provincial government's proposed wage freeze.
The Ontario Medical Association says it is "seriously concerned'' about what it calls a significant negative impact on patients, physicians and the health-care system because of terms suggested in last month's budget.
High Schools Rated by Fraser Institute
Right wing think tank, the Fraser Institute is out with it's ratings of area high schools.
Atikokan High got the best marks of the three schools in this district.
Atikokan scored a 7.1 out of 10, compared with Rainy River's 6.1 and Fort Frances High's 5.4.
The Institute's spokesperson Michael Thomas says it's good info for parents.
The ratings are based on the recent writing of the provincial standardized tests.
Municipal Lobby Group Gathers Input on City Services
The League of Minnesota Cities is leaving International Falls with plenty of ideas on how to sustain city services.
The municipal lobby group held four community consultations as part of a fact-finding mission.
Spokesperson Don Reeder says there's fear every City in Minnesota could be in a deficit position in three years if things don't change.
The League intends to come out with a report later this summer.
McCormick Visits International Falls
A Canadian woman continues to use her own experiences as a way of speaking out against sexual abuse.
At 19, Melissa McCormick was kidnapped, raped and sexually assault in Detroit.
She spoke about her experiences in International Falls yesterday.
McCormick is encouraged that sexual abuse is being talked about more than ever.
The Windsor, Ontario woman gave a similar speech in Fort Frances about four years ago.

Hunter Fined
Court has fined a Mine Centre man $2,500 for illegal moose hunting.
Myron Huber pleaded guilty the charge laid back in October.
Court was told the hunter shoot a bull moose east of Mine Centre, but another person, who was not hunting at the time, attached his seal to the animal.
Along with the fine, Huber was also banned from hunting in Ontario for a year.
