Hazards of Chewing Tobacco Illustrated
Fort Frances High School students got a first-hand look at the hazards of using chewing tobacco.
Gruen Von Behren, who developed oral cancer at 17, spoke to students yesterday.
Thirty-four surgeries has caused his lower face to become disfigured and his speech slurred.
Von Behren is now a national spokesperson for Oral Health America’s National Spit Tobacco Education Program.
Fort Optometry gives Support
A Fort Frances optometry is doing its part to help improve the sight of children in developing countries.
Dr. Bruce Lidkea of Lidkea Optometry says they're raising money for the program Optometry Giving Sight which helps provide eye exams and glasses to children in need.
Patients are being asked for donations for services received.
The Optometry also donated fees from patient eye exams performed Thursday.

Window Painters Wanted
Program director Andrea Avis says artists are being sought to paint a Hallowe'en themes on their windows as part of contest.
You must register by Monday to participate.
Artists will make their creations next weekend with the public to vote for the best starting October 24.

Zumba for Breast Cancer Awareness
There will be Zumba Pink Party in Fort Frances Saturday.
Instructor Margitta McLeod is using the popular dance to raise funds for a local health program.
Participants will be asked to donate five dollars for the zumba class with the money going to the Rainy River District Breast Health Network.
Because space is limited at the Memorial Sport Centre, you're asked to call 270-2719 to pre-register.
Community Services Manager to Retire
The town of Fort Frances will be searching for a new Community Services manager.
George Bell is retiring at the end of next June.
Bell's been with the town for the past eighteen years.
During that time, he was instrumental in several projects including Memorial Sport Centre, public library, waterfront and Townshend Theatre.
