New rules allowing Counties to levy a tax on vehicle licenses for road improvements isn't getting a warm reception by Koochiching County commissioners.
Legislation allows Minnesota counties to collect up to 10 dollars per car and truck.
For Koochiching, it would mean an estimated $130,000.
Commissioner Wayne Skoe worries the State may be poised to reduced its funding commitments to the County if they don't do it.
Commissioner Wade Pavleck says with residents already being hit by fee and tax increases in other areas, now is no the right time to consider the idea.
Counties have to let the State know of their intention by August 1st.
