There are now twenty active forest fires in northwestern Ontario.

Most new starts reported yesterday were in the far north.

There's just one active fire in the Rainy River District.

A lightning-caused fire on an island at Bluffpoint Lake, 55 kilometres north of Fort Frances, is now listed as being under control.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is anticipating the fire hazard to drop to low in the district with the forecast of rain.
