A new Conservation plan for Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake is close to being finalized.
It's being developed by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Regional vice-president Chris Maher says the plan is important to the area.
"Certainly Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake is an impressive bio-diverse area and there's huge opportunity," says Maher. "We've been looking forward to it to about ten years now. We think we're at the position where we can afford to move ahead and we have the scientific basis to do so."
Maher says the plan would help protect the area and several plant and animal species from the endangered lists.
