A crash midway through the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 in Salem, Indiana, Sunday left Steve Arpin with a 17th place finish in his second ARCA-Remax race of the season.
Arpin started the race 10th following Saturday's qualifying session. He had worked his way up to the 2nd spot before the lap 94 accident forced him into the pits with a severely crumbled race car. It took more than 30 laps before his crew could finish repairs and get the Fort Frances native back on the track, minus the hood and front fenders of his Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota. He re-entered the race 21st and picked up four positions by passing drivers who had retired from the race.
Prior to the accident, Arpin managed to avoid potential disaster on two separate occasions. On lap 12, Arpin was involved in an incident with Ken Weaver that brought out the one of the first caution periods of the day. Sixty laps later, Aprin escaped a potentially race ending incident when he managed to avoid hitting Brett Hudson who spun directly in front of him on corner four. It was that accident that helped move Arpin into second.
Patrick Sheltra was the eventual winner in the race that included NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader in the line-up.
The next ARCA-Remax race for Aprin is April 19th at Rockingham Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina.
